City Council Virtual Public Hearings - November 5, 2020 - 2021-2025 Utility Rate Study & 2021 Revenues included Property taxes, plus fees and charges.
Two (2) hearings will be held on November 5, 2020 at 7pm. Join the virtual meeting to attend and comment on the 2021-2025 Utility Rate Study and the Revenues Needs for 2021 including Property Taxes - Fees - Charges. Access information will be on the agenda along with additional information.

UPDATE - REFUNDS MAILED 12-10-2020 - KALAMA VEHICLE TAB FEE - YES THE FEE WAS REPEALED OCTOBER 1, 2020
UPDATE - 12/11/2020 The City has mailed refund checks to those who were charged the $40 vehicle tab fee for license tabs due and paid October 1 or thereafter.

Kalama's Mayor Terminates the Emergency Declaration - Kalama Remains in Phase 2 of the Washington Safe Start Plan
After consulting with staff and other involved agencies as Mayor I will rescind the declaration of emergency issued in March. Please see the recommendations from Chief Herrera below that outline the uses of the emergency declaration and how that need has passed. Please note it does not open Kalama

The Kalama Planning Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Council providing recommendations on the best methods of growth, development and expansion for the future, addressing development applications and applicable city code amendments. Meetings are on the 2nd Thursday of each month.

Issues have been resolved with the online access and payments can be made online. Autopay will be timely. Did you receive a utility bill in the mail, but normally receive it electronically?
A new version of our Utility Billing software was installed in August and we are still working a few bugs out. All customers were sent paper bills. For those customers on Autopay - please be patient and the fix should be in place by next week.

Water Conserve Order Has Been LIFTED. Thank you and know the City is grateful for the cooperation, understanding and patience of the residents affected by this situation.
Public Works Director Kelly Rasmussen personally thanks all those that helped to keep the reservoir full with their water conservation efforts.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REASONABLE USE EXCEPTION APPLICATION Kalama City Council Meeting September 3, 2020 @ 7 pm.
The Kalama City Council will hold a Virtual Public Hearing on Thursday September 3, 2020 at 7pm. to take testimony and comments on the request for a Reasonable Use Exception from the Critical Areas Code KMC Chapter 15.02 for property located on South Second and Date Street.

Kalama City Council - CARES Aid to Local Businesses
Kalama City Council through the CARES Committee made up of Councilmembers, Chamber representative and citizens awarded over $65,000 to local business owners and residents to help aid in their financial recovery from the closures and loss of jobs under the COVID 19 quarantine.

Kalama Seeks Committee Volunteer for Sales Tax Proposition - For & Against
Committees of 3 are needed to write statements FOR and AGAINST the ballot measure the City Council is placing on the November election to enact a .2 percent sales tax to be used to fund street maintenance and improvements. Please contact the Clerk/Treasurer at cityclerk@kalama.com or 360-673-4561.

Water Will Be OFF on Monday June 15 - Geranium between N. 4th & Taylor, N. 5th between Geranium and the School, and Fir Street from N. 4th to the end beginning at 8am until 4pm.
On Monday June 15th a water main will be shut down to allow the school’s contractor to perform work to the main line. The effected areas that could be out of water are Geranium Street between N.4th and Taylor Road, N.5th Street between Geranium Street and the school and Fir Street from N.4 to end.

Kalama Business Owners and Residents are invited to apply for funds from the federal CARES ACT funding the City was awarded. Funds are available to provide aid for rent/mortgage and/or utility costs during the layoff or closure period and for business costs related to COVID protection costs. MORE..
